Pfanner was originally a bank er in Forest Grove, and did all the banking business of that city for some time. He made some bad investments and Uins. and finally was forced to make an assignment. The late Samuel Hughes, of Forest Grove, was appointed assignee, and the es tate paid out about 40 cents on the dollar. Pfanner wandered away to California, w here he be came penniless. Pfanner was a well educated man. and w rote Knglish as w ell as German. Ik' was a man of keen mind, and a great reader of human rature. Had not val ues shrunk in the early nineties he would have made good on all his loans, and would have come out of the banking business with thousands of dollars. He was about OS years of age at death. He was in Hillsboro several years ago, but the fact was known on ly to an attorney and to the judge of the court. He came in quietly, testified, so it is said on good authority, and then took the next car. Pfanner was a fine looking man, and came from a distinguished family in the ratherland. He was a great personal friend of the Bookers. R Odarmatt. of near Sewell. was in tow n Monday. Jacob Buchele, of Cornelius. was down to the county seat Saturday.
